Jumpstart Program: August 15-16

Each year the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLTC) hosts their Jumpstart session designed for teachers on Texas Tech campus. The 2-day event features several workshops that can help teachers prepare for the coming semester or school year. These workshops discuss everything from using technology in the classroom to connecting with your students to just flat out surviving the semester. These sessions are open to all faculty and graduate students on campus, but is geared toward those who are somewhat new to teaching.

What does this mean for you as a TEACH fellow? For starters, it may help you refine or tweak your course for the coming semester. You may find ways to improve your students' learning as well as make your life a little easier. At the same time, these sessions begin your journey towards completing the requirements of a TEACH fellow.

There was a note about workshop hours in the contract you received with your acceptance letter. As a TEACH fellow, you're expected to complete 20 workshop hours over the course of the school year. The Jumpstart sessions count toward this goal.

While you should have no problem completing the workshop hours during the school year, Jumpstart provides a great opportunity to get a head start in case your life gets a little busy at some point this year. Also, it gives you a chance to know what the TLTC is all about and develop some new ideas for your own teaching. After all, it was an interest in improving your teaching that led you to the TEACH program, right?
